At our core, we are a team of passionate engineers driven by a common purpose; to design effective, efficient solutions to tackle the challenges of our modern world. We originally embarked on a journey to address a common task for many individuals in the U.S.—the daily task of taking out the trash.

Recognizing the physical challenge this poses, particularly for the elderly and disabled, we invented a robot that autonomously takes the trash to the curb. This solution brought relief to those affected by this everyday burden, and we were pleased to learn that we could provide a service that benefits so many people. Our robotic platform earned us widespread recognition, including an appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert!

During the developmental phase of our robot, we had the invaluable opportunity to learn more about the processes and systems which make up the waste industry. It was through this experience that a pressing concern became clear. Landfill space in the United States is quickly dwindling. Alarming estimates suggest that the Northeast region may exhaust all available space as early as 2030, with similar concerns resonating throughout the nation.

Driven by our strong belief in making a positive impact, we have set out to be part of the solution. Our creation evolved from a robotics platform, to SmartCan—a device which collects high-resolution, actionable data on solid waste. With these advanced data collection capabilities, we have the means to address this pressing issue head-on. By monitoring trash output, we aim to offer actionable insights and empower individuals and communities in their work to reduce waste and preserve precious landfill resources.
